SNickelFritz Fusion Seared Tuna 🐟✨

Our Oktoberfest mustard meets the fresh, savoury flavours of Asian-inspired cooking! 🥢

I love the flavours of Asian cuisine, and naturally, I couldn’t resist bringing a little SNickelFritz twist to them. 💙

This seared tuna has quickly become one of my favourite fusion recipes. Our Oktoberfest Mustard adds just the right amount of tang to a simple soy, sesame, ginger and garlic marinade. And if you like a little heat, swap in our Jalapeño Oktoberfest Mustard for an extra kick! 🌶️

Best of all, it looks like a special-occasion dinner but is surprisingly easy to make — perfect for a weeknight when you want something a little different. 😋

Ingredients 🛒

For the tuna

  • 2 tuna steaks

For the marinade

  • 1 tbsp SNickelFritz Oktoberfest Mustard

or SNickelFritz Jalapeño Oktoberfest Mustard for a little kick 🌶️

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tsp sesame oil

  • 1 tsp freshly grated ginger

  • ½ clove garlic, crushed

Directions 👩‍🍳

1. Make the marinade. In a shallow dish, whisk together the mustard, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger and garlic.

2. Marinate the tuna.Add the tuna steaks and turn to coat well on both sides. Cover and refrigerate for 1–2 hours, turning once halfway through so all that flavour gets evenly distributed.

3. Take the chill off.Remove the tuna from the refrigerator about 30–45 minutes before cooking.

4. Get the grill hot. 🔥Preheat your grill to high heat — approximately 500°F (260°C). Clean and lightly oil the grates to help prevent sticking.

5. Give it a quick sear.Remove the tuna from the marinade, allowing the excess to drip off. Place the steaks on the hot grill and sear for approximately 1 minute per side, or up to 1½ minutes per side, depending on their thickness and how you like your tuna cooked.

You’re looking for a beautiful sear on the outside while keeping that gorgeous pink centre. 🩷

6. Serve and enjoy! 🍽️Let the tuna rest briefly, then slice and serve over a crisp salad or alongside your favourite fresh vegetables.

And that salad in the photo? Recipe coming soon! 🥗😉

A little SNickelFritz tip 💙

This is one of those recipes that proves mustard doesn't have to stay in its traditional lane. Oktoberfest Mustard + soy + sesame + ginger = a combination worth trying!
